Annihilists (eg: Jehovah’s Witnesses — JWs; Seventh Day Adventists — SDAs) insist that apollymi (Strong’s #G622) often translated to “destroy, perish, lose”means annihilation, ie cessation of existence as if matter (specifically the soul and spirit of man) can somehow cease to exist after it was created.* This is impossible and contradicts the laws of relativity/ science which only allows for the change of matter into other forms of existence, and denies the uncreation of matter.
- A simple way to quickly “annihilate”(pun intended) the false doctrines of Annihilation of the unredeemed soul after the death of the body, is to simply replace apollymi with “annihilation” (or its appropriate conjugates) in the corresponding verses of the New Testament where apollymi is employed by the inspired writers. Anyone with minimal reasoning and logic skills will easily see the absurdity of the theory and false doctrine called Annihilation, ie the cessation and existing of the body, soul or spirit of the wicked. Eternal torment by unquenchable unending unrelenting fire is a promise, a warning, and the eternal unending reality to the unrepentant sinners from the thrice holy Creator of spirits. Such teachers and proponents of this false hope will certainly want to be annihilated by God’s wrath upon them, but alas, they do NOT cease to exist in the hereafter once death to their body has occurred, nor do they cease to exist in the fires of Gehenna, aka, “the Lake of Fire”, which is “the Second Death”. If they did annihilate how then can they be tormented by the flames forever? Did the Creator fail to realize that?
